About Anthony D. Turner

Inspiring You to Reach Your Goals & Dreams

Anthony Darryl Turner (October 10, 1961 – November 2, 2022) was an American basketball, football, track and field athlete who attended Central High School in Cheyenne Wyoming. In 1980, during his senior year, he showcased exceptional talent, earning All-State honors in football and basketball while securing State Championship in the 400 and triple jump. He was an avid participant in leading his basketball team to State Championship. He also participated on championship teams in football and track and field.

With his athletic accolades in hand, he would become the first black athlete, male or female, to be awarded the Milward Simpson Award when the states black population was less than 1 percent. The Milward Simpson Award is considered the most prestigious award an athlete can earn in their high school career and is awarded to the most outstanding male and female high school seniors in the state of Wyoming.

As a family member, friend, educator and coach, Anthony dedicated himself to improving his own life and skills while also making the effort to mentor, inspire, and uplift others in his community.

In 2024 Anthony was inducted into the Wyoming archives as one of the most prominent African Americans in the states history.
